Equity-Minded Inquiry & Transformative Teaching (EMITT) Program

A capacity-building, data-informed, and community-anchored professional development program

The Equity-Minded Inquiry & Transformative Teaching (EMITT) Program is an instructional development model focused on:

(1) making mathematics teaching more equitable in process and outcomes for both faculty and students

(2) linking excellent teaching to student outcomes

(3) integrating digital learning into instructional development

(4) a professional development program that trains instructors on how to drive institutional and disciplinary change from within the classroom so that equitable teaching and outcomes become expected disciplinary standards in mathematics at their respective institutions and across the discipline nation-wide.

The goal of the EMITT program is to develop scalable faculty instructional and professional development to advance learning outcomes for Black, Latine, Indigenous, and low-income first-generation college students in foundational college mathematics courses at minority-serving institutions. In addition, the program supports faculty at predominately white institutions who are committed to creating equitable learning conditions and reaching equitable outcomes for Black, Latine, Indigenous, and low-income first-generation colleges students.
