The goal of the University of Connecticut’s National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (NRT) grant is to use the northeastern U.S. megalopolis as a living laboratory to understand, predict, manage, and communicate risks to food, energy, water, and ecosystems (FEWES) in the face of global change. The Team-based Transdisciplinary, Estimation of Risks, Real-world Analysis (Team-TERRA) uses three novel, cross-cutting approaches to graduate education:

(a) active collaborating learning

(b) problem-based learning

(c) service learning, to achieve training and research goals.

The program aims to broaden the impact of the university, its research, and its education to meet the changing demands of society and the culture of education and research. Specifically, program activities aimed to produce outcomes in the following impact areas:

(a) change the culture of STEM education and research

(b) broaden participation in STEM

(c) advance FEWES research knowledge

(d) serve the community

(e) train tomorrow’s workforce.

This work is supported by NSF-NRT grant award #2022036.
