Morshed Alam is a doctoral student in the Learning, Leadership, and Education Policy Program at the University of Connecticut’s Neag School of Education. His research interests lie at the intersection of higher education policy, gender equity, research capacity development, and institutional transformation, with a particular focus on understanding how social, cultural, and organizational structures influence women’s academic and professional advancement in Bangladesh and the broader Global South.

Growing up in Bangladesh, Morshed observed how increasing access to higher education for women has not always resulted in equal participation in research careers, academic leadership, and professional opportunities. These experiences shaped his commitment to examining the institutional and social factors that affect women’s transitions from higher education into academic and professional roles.

Before beginning his doctoral studies, Morshed worked in higher education and research environments, where he gained experience in teaching, research training, and interdisciplinary projects. Through his involvement in research initiatives and publications, he developed a strong interest in qualitative inquiry, education policy analysis, and evidence-based approaches to improving equity in higher education systems.

His current research explores how gender, social structures, institutional cultures, and access to academic networks shape women’s experiences in higher education and research careers. Using qualitative approaches, including interviews and focus group discussions, his work aims to identify barriers and institutional practices that influence women’s professional mobility and leadership opportunities.

Beyond research, Morshed is interested in strengthening research capacity among students and early-career scholars. He is involved in initiatives that promote research skills, academic collaboration, and equitable participation in knowledge production.

Outside academia, Morshed enjoys exploring new cultures, learning languages, engaging in interdisciplinary discussions, and spending time with his family.
